Where to find wholesale cat carriers, and how to spec them
Wholesale pet supplies buying · Published 2026-08-27

Wholesale cat carriers are easy to find and easy to specify badly. The listings are full of "airline approved" photographs. The product is a bag of fabric, a frame, a zipper and a set of dimensions, and those four things are what a retailer, a vet clinic or a carrier service actually buys. If the dimensions are wrong, nothing else on the quotation matters.
This page is where to find wholesale cat carriers and how to write the order so the lot matches the listing you will sell. The general wholesale process is in how to buy pet supplies wholesale. The airline-adjacent rules that people confuse with a certificate are covered here, not in a ranked shop directory.
Three carriers, three workshops
Buyers quote cat carriers as one line. They are three products, often three buildings, and a mixed first order is how you inherit three minimums and one set of dimensions that only one of them can hit.
| Type | What you are really buying | What usually fails |
|---|---|---|
| Soft-sided cabin bag | Fabric shell, wire or PE frame, mesh panels, zippers, a mat, a shoulder strap | A listed size that does not match the built size, a zipper that splits, mesh that tears at the stitch, a frame that collapses |
| Hard airline crate | A moulded shell, a metal door, ventilation, fasteners | Door pins that walk out, a latch that does not stay, a size that is not the IATA-style crate the buyer thought they were ordering |
| Backpack and sling | A sewn bag with a window, sometimes a fan or a bubble | Poor ventilation sold as a travel product, straps that fail, a plastic window that cracks in the carton |
A first wholesale lot should be one type. Soft-sided cabin bags are the usual retail start because they fold in the carton and they photograph. Hard crates are a different factory and a different customer (cargo, breeder, long road). Backpacks sell on social media and return on ventilation. Pick the type on purpose.
"Airline approved" is not a certificate
No single stamp makes a soft carrier legal on every aircraft. Airlines publish their own cabin-size and construction rules, and they change. A factory that prints "airline approved" on a hang tag is printing a marketing line. What you can honestly sell is a carrier whose external dimensions and weight you document, so a retailer can check them against the airline their customer named.
- Write the external length, width and height of the built unit, not of the fabric before the frame is in. On our own soft-sided line those figures are 43 x 28 x 28 cm for size S and 48 x 30 x 33 cm for size M. Put that kind of line on the quotation and on the listing.
- Write whether the carrier is intended as under-seat cabin, as a car crate, or as cargo. Those are three sells. Mixing them in one title is how a customer buys a backpack for a hold.
- Hard crates used as cargo have a separate conversation around IATA Live Animals Regulations-style construction (door, ventilation, fasteners). That is a spec you write and test, not a logo you reprint from a competitor.
- Cabin rules for cats and dogs in the cabin are an airline document. Link your retailer to that document. Do not invent a global approval.
If a supplier's only size claim is "fits most airlines," they have not measured the unit they will ship. Measure three production samples yourself and keep the tape in the photograph.
Write the bag, not the lifestyle shot
A soft carrier is a sewn product with a bought-in frame. Quote a colour and a size name (S/M) and you will be quoted the cheapest shell that will photograph at that size. Write the construction.
- Shell fabric. Denier and fibre. 600D polyester is a common retail spec; name it. "Heavy duty" is not a spec.
- Frame. Wire or PE pipe, diameter, how it is sleeved, whether it is removable. A frame that collapses in the carton will collapse in a car footwell.
- Mesh. Fibre, whether it is PVC-coated, stitch pitch at the panel edge. Mesh failure starts at the stitch, not in the middle of the panel. Three-side ventilation is a design choice; write which sides, and do not block them with fashion pockets.
- Zippers. Brand if you care, tooth size, whether the pulls lock. Lockable zip pulls are a small line that a clinic and a cabin crew both notice.
- Mat and interior. Removable or not, fibre, whether it is machine washable. A fleece that cannot come out is a smell you will own.
- Straps and the car loop. Stitching, hardware, a seat-belt loop that is a sewn webbing tunnel rather than a plastic ring from a notions bin.
Hard crates swap that list for a moulded compound, a door mesh, pin steel and a fastener schedule. Do not let a factory quote a soft bag and a hard crate as variants of one SKU. They are not.
How they pack, and why the carton is part of the spec
Soft carriers fold. That is the only reason they are a reasonable sea-freight product. Hard crates nest or they waste the container. Ask for the packed carton, not the lifestyle volume.
- On our own soft-sided line, 30 folded pieces pack into a 62 x 48 x 50 cm carton. A quotation that cannot give you pieces per carton is not ready for freight.
- Folded is not the same as crushed. Sample a unit that has spent time in a packed carton, then set the frame and see whether the shell still sits square.
- Hard crates: ask whether they nest, and what the nested height is. A crate that does not nest is a furniture shipment.
Beds have the same cube problem in a different shape; if you are building a furniture-and-travel first container, read the packing section in buying dog beds in bulk before you mix cartons.
Where to find them, without a shopping list of malls
The useful sources are the same as the rest of this category, and each hides something.
- Yiwu and the general-goods cluster. Soft bags, backpacks, mats. Fast for stock colours. Weak if you need a measured cabin size held from lot to lot, unless you write the dimensions into the order and inspect them.
- A moulding shop for hard crates. Different city, different MOQ, different conversation. Finding that shop is a manufacturer hunt, covered in finding pet product manufacturers in China.
- A domestic pet distributor. Right when you need mixed sizes next week. Wrong when you need a private size or a private fabric. The China-versus-distributor trade-off is in China direct versus US distributors.
- A trading company that will hold the dimension file. AXISLINK is this counterparty. Useful when the order is a carrier plus something sewn from the same cluster. The wrong choice if you want to own a crate mould with no one in between.
Marketplace listings are a price and a photograph. You may not know which of the four above you just bought. Verify the counterparty as you would any other Chinese pet supplier; the method is in how to verify a Chinese pet supplier.
A first wholesale lot
One type, two sizes, one or two stock colours. Cabin bags in S and M cover most retail. Adding L because the photograph looks roomy is how you invent a size no airline cabin will take and no cat will thank you for on a bus.
On our own list a soft-sided carrier is 200 pieces. That is a sewn-goods floor (fabric roll, mesh, zipper tape), not a posture. A first lot at 200, split across two sizes in a size ratio you can sell, is a real order. A first lot at 200 split across five colours is a print-and-dye problem you did not need.
Branding (embroidered logo, custom lining, a printed carton) is private label on top of that floor. Do it after the stock bag has sold through, not as a way to hide an unmeasured size. The deal mechanics are in private label pet products. If the bag will go to Amazon fulfilment, add barcode placement and a poly-bag conversation before you freeze the SKU; that version is in private label pet products for Amazon FBA.
Safety is the zipper, the mesh and the air
A carrier fails in three boring ways: a zipper that opens, a mesh that a claw finds, and a bag that does not ventilate. Write those into the purchase order and abuse the sample.
- Load the sample with a weight you would not be ashamed of, pick it up by one strap, and see what the stitch does.
- Work the zippers a hundred times. Cheap tooth tape fails in the shop, not in the first photograph.
- Check that lockable pulls actually lock, and that a paw cannot work the interior tab.
- Name the chemical regime for fabric and mesh: REACH and SVHC for Europe; for the United States, CPSIA can apply when a child could reasonably handle the item. Broader material questions are in are pet products from China safe.
Import mechanics are in importing to the USA and importing to Europe. The current range is under carriers and travel.
