How to choose a cat tree manufacturer instead of picking a best name

Wholesale pet supplies buying · Published 2026-08-27

There is no best cat tree manufacturer. There is a specification, a carton, and a workshop that can repeat both. Ranked lists in this category are usually advertisements, because the product is a pile of board, sisal, plush and screws, and those four things are sourced separately. The factory that photographs well is not always the factory that packs a 120 cm tree so it arrives with the posts still round.

This page is how to evaluate a cat tree manufacturer, and how to buy the first wholesale lot without pretending a league table did the work. The general hunt for factories is in finding pet product manufacturers in China. Dog beds share the furniture aisle and none of the structure; that buy is in buying dog beds in bulk.

What you are actually buying

A cat tree is a small piece of furniture sold as a pet product. Quote it as a pet product and you will be quoted a photograph. Quote it as furniture and you can compare workshops.

PartWhat to write downWhat usually fails
BoardGrade, thickness of the base and of the platforms, edge bandingA base that is too light, a platform that bows, formaldehyde that you can smell in a closed room
PostsDiameter, core material, sisal fibre, wrap density, glueSisal that unwinds in a week, a thin wrap over cardboard, glue that fails in humidity
Plush and condosPile, whether it pills, how it is stapled or glued to the boardCover that bags, staples that work loose, a condo doorway with a raw edge
Hardware and feetScrew type, whether posts are seated or only perched, floor protectionA tree that racks, a post that spins, feet that mark a floor
CartonFlat-pack dimensions, parts numbered, whether a spare sisal length is in the boxA crushed post, missing screws, instructions that do not match the parts

On our own 120 cm tree the board is specified as E1 grade, the posts are natural sisal, the assembled height is 120 cm on a 50 x 50 cm base, and it ships one piece per carton at 96 x 52 x 18 cm. Those numbers are the product. A listing that gives you a lifestyle photograph and a "large" is not a manufacturer quotation.

Factory, furniture mill, trader

Search results mix three counterparties, and "manufacturer" is the word all three use.

  • A dedicated cat tree or small-furniture workshop. They cut board, wrap posts and sew condos. This is the usual right counterparty for a wholesale tree. Capacity is a number of cartons per week, not a number of SKUs on a website.
  • A larger furniture mill that also does pet. Fine for simple board work. Weak on sisal wrap and on the small-parts discipline a pet product needs, unless they have a pet line with its own floor.
  • A trading company. They do not wrap the posts. They hold the file across the board mill, the sisal shop and the carton plant. AXISLINK is this counterparty. Useful when the order is a tree plus beds or toys. The wrong choice if you want to own the jig at a single workshop with no one in between.

Ask who wraps the sisal, who cuts the board, and who prints the carton. One address for all three is a factory. Three addresses behind one English speaker is a trader. Neither is a moral category. Mixing them up is how you send a factory-audit checklist to an office in a mall. The verification steps that apply either way are in how to verify a Chinese pet supplier.

The checks that beat a "best of" list

You do not need a ranking. You need to see the wrap, the base and the carton. In person is better. A video walk through the wrapping jigs and the packing table is the minimum if you cannot travel.

  1. Watch a post being wrapped. Density is visible. A jig and a named fibre are visible. A pile of pre-wrapped posts in a showroom is not evidence they wrapped them.
  2. Weigh the base and measure its thickness. Tip-over is a base problem more often than a height problem. A tall tree on a light base is a listing, not a product.
  3. Assemble one unit from a production carton, not from a showroom tree. Numbered parts, a complete screw kit, and a post that seats rather than perches are the test. Time it. If you cannot assemble it, neither can a customer.
  4. Push the assembled tree. It should rack a little and stop. It should not walk. Do this on a hard floor, not on a carpet that forgives it.
  5. Smell a sealed sample carton after a few days in a warm room. Board grade is a document and a nose. E1 on a quotation that smells of glue in the box is not E1 in the lot.

If the supplier will not send a production carton, you do not have a manufacturer. You have a catalogue. Pay for the sample. Free trees are often a different wrap.

Freight is the product

Cat trees are a cube buy. A 120 cm assembled tree is unsellable by sea unless it is flat packed. The carton is therefore part of the specification, not an afterthought.

  • One tree per carton is normal at this height, and it is what we run. Mixed "2 pc" cartons exist on smaller scratchers; they are a different SKU, not a discount on the same tree.
  • Ask for a container loading plan with the quotation, not after. A workshop that cannot tell you how many cartons fit has not shipped this size.
  • Posts get crushed in the corners. Corner protection and a carton test (drop, stack) belong in the purchase order if you like the wrap you sampled.
  • Spare sisal and spare screws in the carton cost little and save a review. Write them in.

Do not air-freight a first lot to "see how they sell." The freight will lie, and the carton that survives air is not the carton that has to survive a stack in a container. Sea freight is the test.

A first wholesale lot

One height, one colour, one condo layout. A forest of SKUs is how cat tree programmes stall: each height is a different base, a different post length and a different carton.

On our own list a 120 cm tree is 50 pieces. That is a low piece count because each piece is a carton. Fifty cartons is already a freight conversation, not a sample. A first lot at that height should be the 50, or a smaller paid sample of a few production cartons, not a custom colourway and a new condo on top of a tool you have not proven.

Custom plush colour and a printed carton are private label, and they carry fabric and print minimums on top of the 50. A new geometry (a different condo, a different post layout) is closer to OEM, with jigs and a new packing drawing. Do not start there. The private label mechanics are in private label pet products; this page is the stock wholesale buy.

Safety is stability, wrap and board, not a badge

A cat tree has to stay up, and the wrap has to stay on. Those are the two injuries waiting in a bad lot: a tip, and sisal a cat pulls into a string. There is no single global "cat tree certificate" that replaces those checks.

  • Write a base size and a tip check into the purchase order. Do the push test on a production unit.
  • Write the sisal fibre, the wrap method and a pull test on the finished post.
  • Write the board grade. For Europe, REACH still applies to the coatings and the glue. For the United States, CPSIA can apply when a child could reasonably use the item, which is a live issue for furniture that sits in a living room. Broader material questions are in are pet products from China safe.

Import mechanics, including how a bulky carton actually moves, are in importing to the USA and importing to Europe. The current range, with packing on the page, is under beds and cat trees.

Working with AXISLINK

AXISLINK TRADING LIMITED is not a cat tree factory. We will not put ourselves on a best-manufacturer list, because we are a Hong Kong trading company holding a specification across the workshops behind an order. That is useful when you want a tree and a bed in one file, and it is the wrong setup if you want to own the wrapping jig.

Send a height, a photo of a tree you already sell or a written layout, a quantity and the destination port. We will quote board, sisal, carton and a loading plan, and we will say when a change you want is a new jig. Request a quote from the contact page, or email sales@axislinktrading.com. The rest of this pillar is under wholesale buying.
