Where to Find Wholesale Promotional Pet Products for Your Business

Written by Joy Hu · Private label & OEM pet products · Published 2026-10-10

There are four places to buy promotional items wholesale. A promotional products distributor handles the artwork and decoration and accepts small orders. The domestic suppliers and decorators behind those distributors sell blank stock and decorate it. Manufacturers and trading companies in China offer the lowest unit price but ask for larger quantities and leave the import to you. Online marketplaces mix all three. For a small business, the right route is decided mostly by the quantity and the deadline, not by the item.

The item still matters, though. For pet businesses, and for any business whose customers own pets, a branded pet accessory does more work than another pen. A poop bag dispenser clipped to a leash goes on every walk. A bandana turns up in the photos owners post. This page is written for vet clinics, groomers, pet shops, trainers, daycare and boarding businesses, shelters and pet brands, and for promotional distributors sourcing pet items for their clients.

A promotional products distributor is where most small businesses should start. Distributors work from the catalogues of many suppliers, prepare the artwork proof, manage the decoration and deliver to your door. You pay for that service in the unit price, and for an order of a few dozen items it is money well spent. Many promotional suppliers sell only through distributors, which is another reason a small buyer begins there.

A domestic supplier or decorator buys blank stock and adds your logo by printing or embroidery. Going direct makes sense when you already know the item you want and have print ready artwork. Bandanas, towels and treat pouches are well suited to local embroidery and screen printing.

A manufacturer or trading company in China becomes the better route once the quantity runs into the hundreds and you can plan months ahead. The unit price is lower because there is no distributor margin and the decoration happens on the production line, but you take on samples, payment terms and the import. The full sequence is set out in how to buy pet supplies directly from China.

An online marketplace can be any of the three. A listing may come from a factory, a reseller or a decorator working from someone else's stock. Before you order, find out which one it is, because that decides who answers when the print is wrong.

Leashes and collars with printed or woven webbing work the same way as a private label programme, and the material choices are covered in private label dog collars. For toys, the safety questions are set out in private label dog toys.

How decoration sets the minimum

The minimum order quantity (MOQ) on a promotional item is usually set by the decoration, not by the item. Decoration falls into three tiers.

  1. A print on a stock item. Pad printing, screen printing, heat transfer and sublimation all work on products that already exist. There is no tooling, so the minimum is set by the decorator's setup and is the lowest of the three.
  2. A custom colour or a woven logo. Webbing dyed to your colour or woven with your logo starts at the mill, and the mill sets a minimum for each colour and design.
  3. A custom mould. A logo moulded into silicone or rubber needs a change to the mould. That adds a mould cost and a higher minimum, and it pays off only for a programme you will repeat.

Within the first tier, every extra colour in a screen or pad printed logo is usually another screen or another pass, so a logo with fewer colours costs less. Small decoration areas, like the side of a bag dispenser, lose fine lines and small text. Send a simplified version of the logo for those items and check it on the proof.

Packaging is part of the decision as well. Promotional items can ship bulk packed in plain bags. A header card or an insert card carrying your address and phone number turns a giveaway into something a customer can act on, for a small extra cost. A retail box costs more and is rarely needed for a giveaway.

Plan backwards from the date

Promotional items are usually tied to a date: an open day, a show, a seasonal campaign. Work back from it through each stage.

  1. Final artwork as a vector file.
  2. A digital proof showing the logo, its size and its position.
  3. A physical sample with your decoration, for any order large enough to matter.
  4. Production.
  5. Freight. From overseas that means sea freight time, or paying for air.
  6. Delivery, with a margin for customs.

A late start narrows the choice to stock items decorated locally. That is a fine result for a small order. It is an expensive one for a large order that could have been made at source.

A giveaway is still a product

Giving an item away does not take it outside product safety rules. In the EU, the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) covers consumer products supplied in the course of business whether they are sold or given free, so a free bandana carries the same traceability and safety duties as a sold one. Other markets take a similar view of products handed to consumers.

Ask your supplier which test reports cover the finished, decorated item, not only the base material. This matters most for anything that goes in a mouth or holds food: toys, bowls, lick mats and treat pouches. Ask that inks and coatings meet the chemical rules of the market you will hand them out in, such as REACH in the EU. If the items will be given out at a family event, make sure they are clearly labelled as pet products. The wider material questions are covered in are pet products from China safe.

Getting more from a small budget

  • One item done well beats three done cheaply. A good leash gets used for years. A thin one goes in the bin and takes your logo with it.
  • Choose stock colours. A custom colour moves you to the second tier of minimums.
  • Keep the logo to one or two colours. It costs less and reads better at small sizes.
  • Print something useful. A web address or a phone number earns its place on the item. A slogan rarely does.
  • Ask about the next price break. The next quantity tier sometimes costs only a little more in total, and the spare stock covers the next event.
  • Reorder only after the first batch proves itself. Track which item customers actually mention or come back with.

If you resell promotional products

Promotional distributors and resellers sourcing pet items have a few extra requirements. Ask for the blank price and the decoration price separately, so you can quote your clients either way. Ask for neutral packaging that carries no supplier branding. Get a sample with your client's decoration before your client sees the final proof, and keep the test reports on file for each item, because your client will ask you, not the factory. At larger volumes the arrangement starts to look like a private label programme, which is explained in private label pet products.

Where AXISLINK fits

AXISLINK TRADING LIMITED is a Hong Kong trading company sourcing through affiliated entities in Yiwu and Shenzhen. We supply pet products in bulk and as private label, so we sit on the third route above: a lower unit price and a higher minimum than a promotional distributor. Minimums are published on each product page and are set for retail stock, so a clinic ordering for a single open day is usually better served by a local distributor, and we will say so.

If you are a promotional distributor, a pet brand or a business ordering in quantity, send us the item, your logo, the decoration you have in mind, the quantity and the date you need it by. We will tell you whether it is worth doing at that quantity and break the price into product, decoration and packaging. Start with collars, leashes and harnesses, dog and cat toys or grooming and care, or browse the product catalogue. The rest of this series is under private label and OEM. Request a quote from the contact page, or email sales@axislinktrading.com.
